Bakery E=MmmCake2 Announces Permanent Shutdown
E=MmmCake2, a popular bakery in Manipal, announced on 20th February that they would be closing their shop permanently on 8th March 2018, garnering wide dismay from customers professing admiration for their products.
“We’ve been running this for four years now, and I think it’s time to move on. Everything has its own time,” said Abi Francis, who founded, runs, and bakes for the shop. Abi, a former student of the School of Communication, while in between jobs, created a Facebook page not really expecting much to happen. She was pleasantly surprised when she began receiving orders in the first week itself, despite nobody knowing her or the product. From this small beginning, sales rocketed up and in November 2013, Abi had to open a proper shop and turn it into a formal business to handle the demand.
What sets E=MmmCake2 apart is that their focus has always been on quality and not quantity, ensuring fresh products created in a hygienic way and without any preservatives. “I have tried many cupcakes from here and loved it. I know you’re gaining popularity, and the only reason I don’t tell my friends about you is because they’ll get in the queue ahead of me and finish off all your baked goodness,” reads a review on their Facebook page, that enjoys a 4.9 out of 5 star rating from 139 reviews.
While having no plans to get back into the business, Abi Francis does not completely rule out the possibility. “I don’t know, life can take anyone by surprise, so I can’t say what’s going to happen in the future,” she says.
